Warehouse Lift Description

This Warehouse Lift is a double pillar machine with a Safe Working Load of 1500 Kgs and a lift height of 7825mm. The lifting platform was 1600mm x 1400mm with a clear height of 2200mm to allow a palletainers to be loaded using either a fork lift truck or powered hand truck. The Warehouse Lift has a straight through loading configuration so that the palletainer is loaded at the front of the machine in the lowered position and exits the machine at the rear in the raised position. At the upper level, there was a stainless steel landing plate that bridged the gap from the upper floor to the lifting carriage to allow easy unloading. The Warehouse Lift was constructed from Grade 304 stainless steel throughout and was designed to be bolted to the floor and braced at the upper level. Lifting with this Warehouse Lift is accomplished via chains driven by a motor gearbox mounted at the top of the one column with a crossover shaft to the other column.

The lift was constructed in five sections that allowed each section to be manoeuvred into place at the bottom of the lift shaft and one by one be lifted up and bolted to the next part of the lift until the whole structure was assembled.

Safety Guard to PD 5304:2005 Safety of Machinery

The safety guard is constructed from 50 x 50 x 3mm stainless steel box section and 2mm stainless steel sheet to meet the requirements of PD 5304:2005 Safety of Machinery. It would enclose the Warehouse Lift to a height of 10020mm with a pair of hinged doors at each level through which the pallet can be loaded and unloaded. Each door is electrically interlocked to prevent the Warehouse Lift being operated with a door open and in addition, the doors are mechanically locked closed whilst the Warehouse Lift is running. Each door may only be opened when the lifting carriage is at the appropriate level.

Guarded Machine Electrical Control

The Warehouse Lift was fitted with an IP65 Stainless Steel Control Panel which was mounted on the safety guard at the bottom of the machine. There was also a remote stainless steel push button stations at each level to control the lift including the following controls; Up, Down, Guard Release and an Emergency Stop. The Warehouse Lift operation is latched so that pressing the respective 'Up' or 'Down' push buttons once will raise or lower the lift to the other floor level. The control panel included a Braking Resistor to allow a full pallet to be lifted or lowered.

Clean in Position

The Warehouse Lift was supplied with a Clean in Position facility to allow the area inside the lift to be cleaned safely. The lift carriage was driven to the full up position where it was then secured by the engagement of an interlock pin driven using an electrically operated actuator. Safety limit switches were used to signal the position of the safety pin which then inhibited the lift from operating and allowed the ground floor doors to be opened for cleaning to take place. Once the safety pin was disengaged, the safety circuit could be reset allowing normal operation to commence.

This Warehouse lift was required to elevate a Palletainer (1250 x 1250 x 2000mm) from a ground floor level onto a mezzanine floor at a height of 7825mm. The Warehouse lift was purpose built to suit the application and the project included the design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of the Warehouse lift.
