Box Tipper Description

This Box Tipper is designed to lift and tip a 600 Litre Dolaf bin at a height of 1250mm. The Box Tipper is constructed from Grade 304 stainless steel, is a fully TIG welded construction throughout and is designed to be bolted to the floor. This Box Tipper was powered via a hydraulic powerpack tips the box by the extension of a pair of stainless steel hydraulic cylinders to an angle of 30 degrees past the horizontal. The hydraulic cylinders are fitted with a safety check valves such that even in the unlikely event of a hydraulic hose failure, the raised bin will not fall to the floor.

Safety Guard to PD 5304:2005 Safety of Machinery

The safety guard is constructed from 40 x 40 x 3mm stainless steel box section and 3mm wire, 40mm aperture stainless steel weld mesh to meet the requirements of PD 5304:2005 Safety of Machinery. It encloses the Box Tipper to a height of 2200mm on two sides, 800mm at the front with a hinged door on the fourth side. The guard door is electrically and mechanically interlocked preventing the Box Tipper from operating with the door open. In addition, the guard door can only be opened when the lifting carriage is at the full down position.

Guarded Machine Electrical Control

This Box Tipper was fitted with an IP65 Stainless Steel Control Panel which was mounted on the safety guard. The control panel incorporates the following controls; Up, Down, Guard Release, Emergency Stop and a Reset Facility. The Box Tipper operation was latched so that pressing the 'Up' push button once will raise the lift to the full tip position. Once the product was discharged, pressing the 'Down' push button once will return the machine to the full down position. The control panel has the facility for a 'call to run' signal to be connected to a sensor monitoring the level of product in the conveyor feed hopper. When the level of product in the feed hopper drops to a low level and the conveyor is running, the Box Tipper will operate to feed more product into the feed hopper. This whole process will be automatic once the bin was loaded into the Box Tipper and the inclined conveyor was running.

Inclined Conveyor and Feed Hopper

• Manufactured from food industry approved materials and components i.e. stainless steel grade 304 and food quality plastics such as nylon or PTFE.
• The metal construction will be a fully welded construction with no cracks, crevices or ledges for product to accumulate. Where possible all horizontal members will be from either round tube or box section turned through 45 degrees.
• All conveyor drive and idle ends should be guarded to the Safety of Machinery PD5304:2005 specification.
• All electrical Emergency Stop circuit cable or any other control cables will be run through stainless steel conduit.
• All control panel and Emergency Stop push button stations will be stainless steel grade 304 and will be full welded to the conveyor body or mounted on spacers so that the area behind the panel can be cleaned.
• Our equipment will be designed and manufactured to comply with CE European 'Essential Health & Safety Requirements@ as specified in the Machinery Safety Directive (89/392/EEC,91/368/EEC & 94/44/EEC) (The supply of Machinery Safety Regulations 1992)
• The Electrical Control Panel will be purpose built, all work will be carried out in accordance with the current edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations.

Box Tipper Application Story

This fully guarded hydraulic Box Tipper was loaded with a Dolaf bin full of chicken breasts via a hand pallet truck. The chicken breasts were tipped into the Inclined Conveyor Feed Hopper and elevated above a freezing conveyor where an operator placed the chicken breasts onto the freezing conveyor. The whole system operation was automated such that once a bin was loaded into the Box Tipper the discharge rate was controlled until the whole box was empty. The Inclined Conveyor was controlled via an Inverter Drive so that the feed rate at the end of the incline could also be controlled.
